Huge thank you to Michael from Baw Baw Sustainability Network for undertaking a comprehensive home energy assessment of my property at the start of this year.
Not only did I receive the Residential Efficiency Scorecard, but by following Michael’s detailed recommendations, with contacts for local service providers, I was able to improve the energy efficiency of my house by more than 1 star in just seven months and on a modest budget.
The revised assessment qualified me for a Bank Australia eco-loan and the house is already more comfortable. I will work my way through improvements over the coming years – and continue to reap the benefits!

Draughtproofing An Old 1905 Weatherboard House
Jeff and I appointed BBSN to draughtproof our 1905 weatherboard house. It turned out that our house was the most leaky house that the team had seen, but they did an excellent job in finding all the gaps and they used a variety of materials to solve the problems.
We now have timber/brush seals around our front door and original double hung windows.
All our cornices, architraves and skirtings have been caulked along with the mantelpiece/wall joints.
Our timber ceiling joins have also been caulked, a job that took several days.
This work has made a noticeable difference to our comfort in the house and Mal confirmed that a blower door test done at the beginning and end of the job reduced the air pressure from 30 to 12 air changes per hour.
This indicated that the leaks had been reduced considerably.
We are very happy with the results and found that it was well worth having this job done for the moderate cost. The guys from BBSN were great to work with and most respectful.
They are very knowledgeable and passionate about the work they do. We highly recommend them.

Underfloor insulation
Underfloor insulation
Timber floors can have a natural beauty but they can feel cold in winter and warm in summer. This results in more heating in winter and more cooling in summer. Under floor insulation installation is crucial in helping keep temperatures even. We use R2.5 polyester rolls, stapled between the floor joists suitable for timber floored homes with at least 40cm of clearance.
Polymax polyester rolls are made by CSR Australia from minimum 40% recycled plastic bottles. This underfloor insulation is non-toxic and non-irritant without the need for gloves, specialised equipment or glass splinters embedded in your skin
If it gets wet, it will dry out and not need to be replaced, plus polyester insulation is a non-flammable material.
