Meet Our Assessors

Dr Malcolm McKelvie

Malcolm has lived and worked in West Gippsland as a general practitioner since the mid 1990’s. He’s passionate about buildings and saving energy and has volunteered countless hours with BBSN offering assessments and retrofit work.

He’s an accredited Scorecard assessor, air tightness testing (blowerdoor) assessor and is a certified Level 1 thermographer for a home energy consultation.

Scorecard assessors are house energy audit experts who assess the comfort and energy costs of a home, making tailored improvement recommendations. They may work directly with the householder, rental provider, builder, architect or organisation.

Michael Hafner

The primary purpose of airtightness testing is to assess the building’s airtight envelope quality and identify areas where air leakage occurs. This information is critical for improving energy efficiency, reducing heating and cooling costs, and improving indoor air quality.

Michele Geoffrey

As a NatHERS Assessor, Michele is a professional energy consultation assessor who has completed relevant training and belongs to an Assessor Accrediting Organisation (AAO). Energy consultation assessors must have a basic understanding of construction, building thermal performance and applicable regulations.

Accredited assessors receive ongoing technical support as well as access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training

Why do we need to do this?

Unfortunately, most homes in Gippsland have not been built with energy efficiency in mind and are only comfortable by relying on energy guzzling heating and cooling appliances.

The average home scores 3 stars on the Scorecard and many older homes are well below this.

Energy prices are rising and people living in poor quality homes are facing the choice to be freezing cold in winter and hot in summer OR pay large energy bills just to be comfortable.

We know all homes can be improved to make them more comfortable and cheaper to run but people need to know how to do it and they need a trusted source of information.
