Our blowerdoor is connected to a pressure gauge showing the pressure difference between inside & outside generated by the fan and how many air changes per hour occur at that pressure difference. This example is showing 6.755 air changes per hour which is a good result. Above 10 is too leaky. Below 3 is too tight for most homes.
Our blowerdoor with the red panel set up in a doorway and its in set, powerful fan.
This example of the pressure gauge shows a result of 18 air changes per hour- very wasteful of energy and money. Sealing up the holes and gaps to achieve a result under 10 would make the home a lot more comfortable and typically save hundreds of dollars each year from energy bills.
Polyester rolls stapled in position. Ensuring all the surfaces of your home are insulated and fairly airtight gets you closer to the “esky” effect; keeping you cosy inside no matter how hot or cold it is outside.
One of our team members, Mike, at work stapling the R2.5 polyester rolls under a floor.
Another example of the glorified tent analogy, where this exhaust fan without any dampening device serves as a large air leakage site. As you heat or cool the home, the air passes freely to the outside, wasting your energy and money.
Jude and Steve had their home draughtproofed by our team, showing the long lasting and effective door sealing.
Our hardwood mouldings coupled with a long lasting compression seal provide an effective air barrier without interrupting the action of the door, unlike many stick-on products.
This shows a large hole punched through a plaster ceiling above kitchen cabinetry. It is typical of Australian homes which are described as glorified tents. Would you buy a tent with a hole this size in it?
House Energy Audit Services
It all starts with listening- what is it like to live in your home? What particular problems do you have?
Then we’ll do a comprehensive energy consultation and assessment of the home, diagnosing where your energy and money is being spent and giving you a personalised, prioritised plan of action.
We have solutions no matter your situation- owning, renting, high or low budget for making improvements.
This service includes a Residential Efficiency Scorecard assessment which puts a star rating on your home, much like a new fridge. The more stars, the cheaper it is to run.
The national Residential Efficiency Scorecard is an innovative, government-backed program that offers:
- a star rating for your home, just like your washing machine,
- a clear pathway to reduce your energy costs and emissions,
- while making your home more comfortable.
The Scorecard certificate also includes hot and cold weather ratings. Our additional report goes into more detail on all the energy and comfort related aspects of your home including your bills and smart meter data if available, the ceiling, walls, floors, doors and windows, air leakiness, insulation, heating, cooling, pools and spas, hot water, appliances, solar and batteries.
We can also help you get ready for an electric vehicle if that is in your plans.
We Can Help You With The Following
Draught proofing service
Did you know that in many homes, up to 50% of heating and cooling energy is lost due to uncontrolled draughts? Sealing up gaps and cracks that leak huge amounts of energy is a high value improvement that is very affordable. We use a blowerdoor to accurately measure how leaky your home is and where the leaks are and how much improvement we’ve made at the end.
Draught Proofing is the most important step you can take to improving the thermal efficiency of your home, reducing your energy use and improving your comfort.
We offer a number of professional draught proofing solutions.
Underfloor insulation
Underfloor insulation
Timber floors can have a natural beauty but they can feel cold in winter and warm in summer. This results in more heating in winter and more cooling in summer. Under floor insulation installation is crucial in helping keep temperatures even. We use R2.5 polyester rolls, stapled between the floor joists suitable for timber floored homes with at least 40cm of clearance.
Polymax polyester rolls are made by CSR Australia from minimum 40% recycled plastic bottles. This underfloor insulation is non-toxic and non-irritant without the need for gloves, specialised equipment or glass splinters embedded in your skin
If it gets wet, it will dry out and not need to be replaced, plus polyester insulation is a non-flammable material.
Magnetite secondary glazing
Magnetite secondary glazing
Single glazed windows are the weakest link in your building shell. Vastly improve their performance and your comfort by adding a second layer of acrylic sheet at a fraction of the cost of double glazing with secondary window glazing.
Reduce noise and improve thermal comfort with Magnetite which allows existing windows to be converted to a double-glazed system providing the benefits of double glazing without the need to replace the existing windows.
The Magnetite retrofit secondary double glazing system is designed and tested to work with your existing windows, doors, skylights and glass areas creating all year-round thermal comfort.
